It's dead until google does something.
They have a HUGE waiting list and quit accepting march 28th 08
It's a great service and I hope GOOGLE does something with it.

Hi everyone just a heads up, I have just received word that Google has temporarily suspended invites on Grand Central. So for those waiting it is like being Limbo and a question of waiting to see what happens.

I noticed that too. But that is just a learning curve you'll get over pretty fast, although humans are creatures of habit. The whole point is that you DON'T answer the call when you pick up, since it gives you a chance to screen the call first. The problem I see is that you need to give everyone you know this new Grand Central phone number, bummer it can't be tied to the number I already have.
