The Sooty Show - 'Royalty' (part 1)

Sooty and Sweep are playing a game of snap with some playing cards, but Sweep isn't playing properly because he can't tell the difference between the King, the Queen and the Jack. Sooty shows him what the King and Queen cards look like, which Sweep finds very amusing because they have two heads. Sweep asks Soo if Queen Elizabeth II has two heads and she shows him a photograph of the Queen and tells him how she once almost met her. Then Sooty tells Soo that he actually has met the Queen before, but she thinks he's making it up and goes to tell Matthew of Sooty's lies. Matthew tells her that Sooty is telling the truth and really did meet the Queen on two occasions and shows her some photographs of the two occasions. Then Sweep and Soo wish that they could meet royality and Matthew tells them that he will try to arrange it.

Sooty, Sweep and Soo go to the bathroom to clean themselves up, because they want to look their best for when they meet royalty. Sooty covers Sweep in shaving foam and then pretends to shave him, then Soo puts Matthew's aftershave on him. They go into the bedroom and Sweep helps Soo to think of presents that the different members of the Royal Family would like to receive, but Sweep isn't much help as he keeps suggesting bones as presents. Then they hear Matthew playing a record of the National Anthem so they come downstairs expecting to see their royal visitor, but Matthew tells them their visitor won't be arriving for another half hour, so everyone goes off to change into their smart clothes. When the royal visitor arrives, Matthew introduces them to Queen Elizabeth II, but then admits that it isn't really the real Queen Elizabeth and is a lady called Jeanette Charles who looks like the Queen. They all chat to Jeanette and ask her some questions, then she gives Sooty, Sweep and Soo some little gifts she's brought for them. When Matthew asks about a gift for him, Jeanette takes out a water pistol and squirts him in the face with water for laughing earlier about when Sooty squirted Prince Philip with water when he met him in the 1970s.

One of my greatest regrets is getting rid of all of my Sooty videos. This was one of my favourite episodes so it's great to see it here.
