THE BLACK PIRATES (1954) starring Anthony Dexter and Lon Chaney. Directed by Allen H. Miner.
Unlike some have said, THE BLACK PIRATES has several distinctive qualities that sets it apart from other swashbucklers. First, this film was shot entirely on location in El Salvador. As low budget as it is, the on-location filming gives it a realness that few big budgeted studio-bound swashbucklers can even had hoped for back then. And the locations are amazing. The story itself is cool and the ending is downbeat and the complete opposite of the usual studio bound epics.
The presence of Anthony Dexter keeps the film going on with its cast of mostly unknowns populating it. He sure had screen presence. It's amazing his career never really took off.
Oh well.
Sorry about the quality of the image but this is the best copy that can be found for now.

To be honest, I only stopped to check this out to build on some ideas I had for an RPG with pirates. I was surprised to enjoy it enough to stick with it to the end.
