At least 11people were killed and 723 others were hurt after violent clashes broke out between protesters and Moroccan security forces in the disputed territory in the Western Sahara, officials said on Monday

The Moroccan security forces stormed Monday morning to dismantle a protest camp erected near Laayoune, Western Sahara, and several people were injured during this operation, said a journalist from the AFP. The police have launched this operation around 7:00 am GMT using powerful water cannons against the inhabitants of the camp. Several ambulances carrying the injured to Lâayoune were seen, the correspondent noted. "It is not known at this time if there are deaths but several injured people were transported to Laayoune," said a resident of the city. Local authorities have confirmed that the assault was given at 07:00 am GMT by the police and auxiliary forces under the supervision of the prosecution. This operation was intended, according to these sources, "to disperse a group of people who refused to leave the camp after having received assistance from the state." Sunday, the road between Lâayoune to the camp drawn nearby by residents to protest against their conditions of life had been blocked by the Moroccan authorities and the GSM mobile network was cut. An activist of a local NGO evoked Sunday "tensions" within the camp and found that an assault of the security services could be imminent. The camp was erected Lâayoune October 19 by several thousand people to protest against the "deterioration" of their living conditions and demanded "jobs and housing." Authorities began in early November to distribute pieces of land to some groups such as widows, divorcees and elderly, but these measures were insufficient to satisfy the occupants of the camp. A third round of negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front over Western Sahara's future must begin on Monday under the aegis of the UN, in suburban New York. The new session of two-day talks will be held at Greentree, Long Island, in the presence of the neighboring countries of Western Sahara, Algeria and Mauritania.

British charity group Sandblast says Morocco's security forces "brutally dismantled" the protest camp.

Also warum dieser Aufstand?

  • You guys need to read some unbias history about the western Sahara desert. I mean from independent books and read or research how the international community sees this conflict. Internet is a very useful tool use it. Stop hating eachother and always always look at both sides of the storynot what you hear from local media propaganda.
