The Aussie staff for WYD are confident that the encounter will indeed be a great blessing for all involved, but remind those preparing to attend not to underestimate the importance of faith-filled preparation.
"I'd like to say to the young people from around the world and around the country as they come to Sydney: 'Don't just think of the logistics, how am I going to save? How am I going to get my back pack together, get my sleeping bag ready, my clothes? Those are very important things of course, but come spiritually charged; be preparing now spiritually".
Young pilgrims will be guaranteed the chance to receive the fruits of the Holy Spirit at Sydney.
For a rundown of the liturgical highlights, we spoke with the Archbishop of Sydney himself.
"There will be daily Mass, of course, with catechesis. There will be the opening Mass on the Tuesday. At all of the catechesis there will be opportunities to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. And, of course, at the different places around Sydney, there will be a whole bevy of priests. Perhaps the most spectacular example of that from WYD was in Rome, when priests spread out over a big part of the Circus Maximus. And so many tens of thousands of young people went to Confession, to the sacrament".
"We want the witness of your faith here in Sydney when you come in July this year."
