Build the best system you can afford, my system is not the highest spec but as a gamer it is good enough to play any game on High / Ultra settings.
Core i5 2500K @ 4.7GHz, 8GB 1600Mhz RAM, 64 GB SSD, 4TB Storage, GTX 470 1.5GB. Check bit-tech.net for PC Hardware Buyer's Guide.

@hrflikk Are you a dumb fuck? you need Either a Dual Core, or a Quad core, i can play the game on max with
Nvidia geforce 550TI 2.3Gb.
4GB Ram
Win 7 Ultimate
Latest GPU / DirectX Drivers
1680x1050
Ultra settings. :)

Advice from another BF3 player on your system:
Nvidia GTS250 - Get a better graphics card
AMD dual core @ 3Ghz - To play this properly on High settings get at least an Intel i5 2500
4gb dual channel corsair ram - If you are on a 32bit system fine, Win 7 Ultimate
64 get at least 8GB RAM DDR3
500gb seagate drive :~ get an SSD as they are cheap now @ <€100 for an OCZ Agility 64GB
win 7 ultimate - Fine as long as it's 64bit to make use of all that memory.
Save up and get new components for Xmas.

@hrflikk the processor exceeds minimum requirements , would love a quad core lol but cannot afford one right now , and it doesn't max out my processor anyway..
its giving me a load of different errors
1: about a lack of virtual memory :s
2: open gl errors
3: disconnected by EA
