Rap music has seen more than its share influence from the religion of Islam. With groups such as Public Enemy rapping about their respect for the Nation of Islam, to people such as Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest embracing mainstream Islam, the religion seems to be a recurrent theme in the genre, both impacting lyrics and lives. One artist more recently touched by Islam is Eric Schrody, better known in music circles as Everlast.

While Everlast began his musical career as a rap artist, he has recently shown himself to have much greater depth and diversity. His current album, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues (currently ranked #49 on billboard's charts after peaking at #9) exhibits this in its reflective and somewhat philosophical tone, showing glimpses of the influence Islam has had on his life.

What follows is an interview in which Everlast discusses his journey to Islam and the challenges he faces as a new Muslim.

Mike Relm is an American DJ, turntablist, and VJ from San Francisco, California. He has performed with notable hip-hop artists Money Mark, Gift of Gab, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, and D-Sharp. In 1999 he won the International Turntablist Federation's USA competition. More recently he toured as part of Mike Patton's Peeping Tom project. As a solo artist, Relm is known for live performances which feature a series of audio mashups paired with video images, manipulated in real-time with a turntable-like device (e.g. Pioneer DVJ1000).

A long time veteran of the Bay Area DJ scene, Ajax has always been one of SF's favorite DJ's. With his great combination of technical skill, musical versatility and solid track selection, you can be sure he's got what it takes to rock any crowd. Ajax can be heard at any one of his regular club residencies as well as daily on Energy 92.7 fm at noon for his mix show, Cardio Radio.

N.W.A, also known as Niggaz With Attitude, was a Compton, California-based hip hop group widely considered one of the seminal acts of the gangsta rap sub-genre.
