  • what i don't understand, is that there are no kind of movies with the English and the Dutch at war.

although the Dutch and English had three wars !

  • @Sw3nn That's an interesting point. You never hear about those wars. Which wars are you referring to so I can research it out?.

  • @oakjackson I would love to see a representation of the battle of copanhagen. Imagine the tension when Nelson disobeyed a direct order and managed to hold out long enough for a truce to be made.

  • @eddyg545 That would be a good one.

  • @oakjackson From the Dutch point of view the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1665-1667) is the most interesting of the four Anglo-Dutch wars. The Raid on the Medway (June 1667) brought the worst defeat upon the Royal Navy in its history. Filming such a battle would be very expensive. Dutch movies always have small budgets and I don't think the British are willing to invest a lot of money on a movie about such a dark page of British history. Well, we do have the paintings...

  • @videoclog Absolutely right about who would finance such a battle. The Dutch very rarely make expensive movies (Soldier of Orange is one that comes to mind). Some great paintings. You can see on Wikepedia for Medway.

  • @videoclog It was a Dark Page of British History, but also formed us our Empire, we got defeated and saw we needed a good navy. Then we got one ;)

  • @Sw3nn That's probably because Holland never tried to invade England, but France did. They tried to use Ireland as a back door through which to invade England six times in 1798 alone, and Napoleon massed 100,000 men at Boulogne in 1805 to cross the Channel and even after Nelson's victory over the Franco-Spanish fleet at Trafalgar, Boney made a grab at the Danish gleet in Copenhagen to replace the ships he lost. Britain & France hated each other which would add more flavour to the plot.

  • @zyzor just like the spanish and italians.

  • the dutch have always been notorious cowards .

  • It's retarded how they use a revolver sound effect when they cock the muskets. You should only hear a click or two with a musket. A revolver has the cylinder rotating and stuff like that.

  • @videoclog I have to give it to the Dutch for that one. That really put an egg in our face, really got caught with our pants down there. I've know about the Dutch raid on the Medway for a long time and it was a well ballsy move and a massive calculated victory.

  • @videoclog Additionally, this period is dominated by the political and military ramifications of the English Civil War that had pretty much sent the country tits up and wasn't really sorted out until the English INVITED Orange in. For Britain the wars with the Dutch are inconsequential because 50 - 70 years later the RN pretty much reigned over the oceans. It holds no value... and probably wouldn't had Medway not happened either.

  • @videoclog That would be shit primarily because more or less all the English ships were docked and only had skeleton crews or no crews at all (King was a tight arse). Try Camperdown - far more mobile, far more exciting just the wrong war. Oh and the Dutch got spanked. Tata.

  • poor powder monkey

  • @oakjackson To make movies of this kind of warfare is very difficult. "Elizabeth" was a great movie, the sequel was shite - you Cannot make a credible movie about the destruction of the Armada, and that Bollywood idiot actually tried. Very Foolish. I hope no-one Ever attempts to make one about Trafalgar, I guarantee it would be garbage.
