Babies are aware of their eliminations needs. And they can have bladder/bowel control from the moment they are born. We started EC with my daughter when she was 5 weeks old.
At the moment this clip was taken she was 12 weeks, 3 days.
Since 11 weeks 6 days baby started to immitate "blowing raspberries" to signal her need of eliminationation. It's not perfect, but she is doing the best she can. Now she is really consistent. Notice the tightening of abdominal muscles. She pees and have a BM after blowing raspberries. At this early age she can already communicate her need to use the bathroom! Currently, she will stop nursing and blow raspberries to tell me she needs to go. I take her to the bathroom and voila! Then we resume nursing. She is clean and happy, and I don't need to change any dirty diaper.
If you don't know what "elimination communication" is, read more here:

This is a great option for a cue, blowing raspberries! Your little one is so cute! Can we have an update on your ECing?

isn't it amazing when they tell us their needs? We started grunting for poo and psssing for pee at 4 months, and at 9 months she started pushing on her lower abdomen when she had to poo! I started pressing on her belly to remind her why she was on the potty when she would get distracted. :) She's 21 months old and is only in a diaper at night!
