All of these compounds contain oxygen. The hydroxyl group ( -OH ) is the sign of an alcohol. The C=O is a carbonyl group and is present in both aldehydes and ketones. Aldehydes have the carbonyl group on the end of their chains, while ketones have the carbonyl group in the middle of a chain.
