In Preparation for the dedication of Denver & Rio Grande Western SD40T-2 No. 5371, the last unpatched Rio Grande tunnel motor, at the Utah State Railroad Museum, the Golden Spike Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society washed the historic locomotive. Includes clips from the ceremony (courtesy of Lee Witten), and Maurice Greeson getting a surprise at the end.

  • does it still run or was it disabled?

  • @jerry91a still ran when we got it, but the turbocharger leaks. We are making efforts to keep it operational, although there is little chance that it will ever move more than a few yards.

  • @GoldenSpikeRLHS Perhaps remove the defective turbo? would be the cheapest route.

  • wow shes in that bad of shape? Too bad well at least your making an effort to bring her back I'm just glad it didn't end up as scrap

thanks for the update and keep up the good work

  • @jerry91a It came in under it's own power, do not know if it was disabled after it was put on display, It also arrived about with about 3/4 a tank of fuel. Not sure if it still has the fuel in it.

  • just give a cleaning rag and I'll do my best, too :)

unfortunately I live too far away to do so...

  • Engine looks nice----now all thats left is to restore here and SP 8800 to their as built apperance
