Black in Korea gives outsiders a first hand look at the experiences of African American expats in South Korea. This clip features Clarissa retelling one her first experiences with Korean concepts of beauty and blackness. However, it should also be stated that this is one isolated incident and may not be indicative of Korean perceptions on the whole. If you have similar or contrasting experiences please let me know.

  • Yeah maybe that korean lady was kind of rude in saying all that to your face but let's be real people everybody thinks of these things. The lady probably didn't know any better because Korea is not really exposed to these racial matters but she definitely had a point in saying that you look different from the typical black women

  • @MrJosephheller There is no typical Black woman. There are stereotypes but those are not true reflections. The trouble is that is all some cultures are exposed to. Black women come in all shapes, sizes and skin tones. There is not one type of Black woman. Their are certain tendency, but their is not one race that looks like monkeys, lol. I personally find myself to be less attracted to certain ethnicities but that is because I value certain phenotypical markers over others.

  • anyone know the girls username on youtube?cuz i know she has a channel but i forgot what it was called:(

  • @behappy2dayplzzz hmm I don't see it..Maybe I can contact her, or maybe she deleted her account.. If she did I know why, crazy, hate filled messages.

  • @FellowshipOfSpike2 Your comments barely deserve a response b/c they are filled with negative energy. Nonetheless, let me challenge you to broaden your perspective. It is very hard to secure work in Korea as a Black person b/c many employers only want White Americans. As for the Black teachers in Korea, they are often nothing like what you describe above. We love Korean people, otherwise we would not be in this country. That's why it's hard for us to undertand how we are treated at times.

  • i believe her.....Thats how they are....its funny how Asian people describe african people with round nose and full lips, high cheek bones....Asians need to take a good look at the mirror because they also are african....Proven by Chinese DNA specialist that Chinese,Japanes and all asiatics are Africans to...PLease everyone on this page look up "DNA Proves Chinese Are African" on youtube....this whole debate needs to be settled once and for all...its just that whites slaved the african badly.

  • you stupid black people need to fucken stop being so loud and inconsiderate; you're lucky they don't say "we don't welcome black people." stop being so fucken loud! fucken ulgy black people get on my nerves more often than any other races! no wonder nobody likes you black baboons!

  • I'll never understand why Black people choose to travel to East Asia only to be continually disrespected by these ugly slant eyed, flat faced, midget assholes.

Teaching English for peanuts in a crappy foreign country is not worth it especially if you have to deal with nonsense like that on a day to day basis. No self respecting human being would tolerate this shit.

    Fuck Korea.

  • lol 40 years is not very old :/

  • does anyone know what happend to clarissa's channel?

  • LOL

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 WTF?!?! You think we're ugly just because of our skin color? Wth is wrong with you?! I'm not ugly. Black people aren't ugly either. You're the one that's ugly. Not us. Oh, and by the way, I dare you to say that infront of a black person in real life. You'd most likely get your ass kicked. xD

  • Her videos were very inspiring and very positive!

  • I really wish that Clarissa would repost her video blogs on teaching in Korea, or any of her travel blogs, or even her hair journey (which is all hers btw, she did a video on cutting off her once processed locks). Like someone said beffore, its probably because of all the ignorant comments which i like to assume its mostly trolling and not sincere, or even maybe someone getting all creepily obsessed (it happens), that would make someone pull the chord definitelly! I hope she makes a comeback!

  • @510GLM you just mad because its true

  • sadly most black people are ugly
