What I find amusing here is the multi layered irony of her song being about a "boy" she can control for her own pleasure, and her words are controlling the actions of the sign language guy. So the signing guy ends up becoming a proxy for the coin operated boy in the song. Not literally of course, but having a man reacting to her every word as she performs it does lend an entirely new dynamic to the performance that even she couldn't have imagined when she wrote the song in the first place.

Many of the people who request an ASL interpreter for a concert are hard of hearing, or have residual hearing. I'm a sign language interpreter who works with MANY people with cochlear implants and other assisting devices- music can still be pleasurable for deaf and heard of hearing people w/ an interpreter. :)
