Café Prückel was created during the ImPulsTanz -festival in Vienna /Summer 2010.
The Café Prückel-project is part of the WORKSHOW-series created by SOITcompany: short intense creations made with a mini crew of SOIT and local performers.
This site specific project took place in the famous Viennese Café Prückel, situated on the grand old ring-boulevard of Vienna.
"Café Prückel" is a short creation on table conversations, hidden secrets and well-kept appearances.
Seven people occupy six tables, all revealing their thoughts, feelings and seemingly unconnected stories. These individuals live separate lives, yet we discover slowly that they are more connected and intertwined than witnessed upon first sight. There's a hidden secret, a connection between all of them. We hear reminders of their past, their personal accounts of their life as a secret sect. They never met the leader of the group, an enigmatic, authoritarian figure. He or she now promised each of them individually to finally meet...
The performance itself is assembled and framed like a sound installation so that the audience can walk around, pick up words, stories, and nuances from each table like a voyeur. By overhearing the montages from table to table, one is left with putting together the pieces of a mental puzzle, most likely inhabiting several outcomes. Just when one story arises, another one comes out and encompasses a next one to occur. Just when a thought becomes a story, that same mind will forget its beginning.
The upstairs part is continued downstairs in an on old little theatre with a long tradition and loaded past. In the final part we see the individuals unite as a group in a chaotic, wild cathartic moment in order to get rid of their angst & fears culminated and built up over the years.
