oh what i wouldnt give to be wrapped up in Gene Kelly's arms!!

@guppy0112 I'd say it's a mix of contemporary and lyrical, but either way it's gorgeous!

@deeprose4 you are so right. i'm sitting here like 'geez i was born in the wrong time frame'...i would have loved to have seen this movie in the theaters. cyd charisse is simply breathtaking. if i ever had a chance to dance with any lady just once it would be cyd charisse....

@guppy0112 youre spot on :-) also could be classed as 'lyrical' which has a lot of elements of ballet and you train for it much like you would ballet but the upper body and neck are much more released than in classical ballet.

Probably the greatest dance number from a movie ever. The way her long scarf blows in the wind, and the set that goes on forever, with no computer tricks. It just looks magnificent. I hate to say this but....They just don't make them like this anymore!

I love when they are all wrapped up in the scarf...its as though they are saying, this is our world, our love.....and nobdy or nothing can touch it.....or steal it away.

I wish Hollywood would make films like this one again. Gene Kelly was not only handsome but supremely talented. I never could understand the attraction to Fred Astaire.
Great film!

i bet that was a bitch trying to dance with. i meant the cape

how in the hell? i tried a scarf sequence for my film but it just went all funky most of the time, whereas theirs looks like the scarf did its movements on purpose

@pescadoyventanas You are right, there is influence from Dali´s landscapes here and , at the same time, Dali himself was probably inspired by this scene for his following paintings. Wonderful : the dance of man and woman across the Universe.
@sjeezy93 . I'm no expert- but- I think that kind of dancing is called 'contemporary' dancing. It often has classical ballet-like moves, sometimes modified, with anything else you want to put in as well. There are no hard-and-fast rules in contemporary (unlike classical ballet and other types of dancing), and you often see a mix of different types of dance rolled into one routine. 'Contemporary' is pretty much anything goes! I hope this helps.

Why can't modern films capture this type of magic? This is just a sensational piece between two stunning dancers!
