March Antoine Charpentier (1634-1704)
Prelude "Te Deum H.146"
William Christie - Les Arts Florissants

Les Arts Florissants

The vocal and instrumental ensemble Les Arts Florissants is one of the most renowned and respected early music groups in Europe and around the world. Dedicated to the performance of Baroque music on original instruments, the ensemble was founded in 1979 by the Franco-American harpsichordist and conductor William Christie, and takes its name from a short opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Les Arts Florissants have been largely responsible for the resurgence of interest in France in 17th-century French repertoire as well as in European music of the 17th and 18th centuries more generally. This was repertoire which had, for the most part, been neglected but which is now widely performed and admired. Now one of the foremost ensembles on the European musical scene, Les Arts Florissants have enjoyed an unbroken string of successes over the past twenty-five years. In 2004, the group played an extremely important part in the concerts celebrating the memory of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704).

  • @Heikkibat

It's not a problem, it's fact, that makes the composition even better.

  • In the church today it was an intense experience.

  • @Heikkibat

Yes, that's pretty much the point of an anthem called Te Deum. Idiot.

  • The only problem is that it is dedicated to the Christian God LOL

  • Love this. I have been a fan of baroque music for years

  • I hate how people sometimes simply cut off the drums at the beginning... Completely missing the spirit of the composition imho
