Comic Book Effect: Adobe Photoshop CS3

Comic Book Effect

*Step One*

-Duplicate your layer. Go to Filter-Blur-Surface Blur
-Radious 15, Theshold 10
-Duplicate the layer after you finish applying the Surface Blur

*Step Two*

-Remove the color information by pressing Shift-Control (Command)-U
-Then load the Luminosity of the layer as a selection by pressing Alt (Option)-Control (Command)- ~ (Tild). You can also load the luminosity by going to the Channels panel and on your RGB layer Control (Command)-Click on the layer and it will copy as a selection =)

*Step Three*

-Create New Layer, and inverse the selection by pressing Shift-Control (Command)-I or just go to Select-Inverse.
-Now fill in with black. Black should be your Fore Background color so all you have to do is press Alt (Option)-Backspace (Delete).
-Now you have all the layers you need for this effect.



*Step Four*

-Turn off top 2 layers and go back to the color layer where you did the Surface Blur
-Go to Filter-Artistic-Cutout
-Number of Levels 8 (to have as much detail as possible), Edge Simplicity 0, and Edge Fidelity 2. Click Okay.
