http://www.tweaktown.com COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - During our visit to the Intel booth during the show, we not only saw MeeGo running on a new Sony netbook, but we also got a chance to have a play around with MeeGo running on a new and unreleased Atom tablet.

Jim Huang, a Senior Technical Marketing Engineer chap at Intel, was on hand to give us a quick run-down on the Intel AppUp Center. What was cool is that we saw it running an app or two on an unreleased Atom-based tablet running the MeeGo Linux operating system. The particular tablet we saw is capable o five point multi-touch and as demonstrated in the hand painting app, it works rather well indeed.

If the big mighty Intel has its way and as we are led to believe by all the advertising around the Computex area in Taipei, Atom is everywhere and is changing everything, the AppUp Center could end up being a good win for the folks at Intel and disrupt things a little for Apple with its own app store on its mega popular i-whatever devices. ie it runs linux = Awseome multitasking and also = Easy programming

did i forget to say it has full flash support, oh yer i did. Well there ya go :P

lets not forget it looks better I could go on but in conclusion, the ipad is not even a match for this thing

  • what's with the pervy weird ending?

  • This guy is a little mis leading since it uses the meego uses the rpm package manager the programs really arent apps as the term app denotes usage on amid or cellphone type device the programs that meego uses are full desktop programs the only thing they actually developedwas the desktop interface the linux kernal was standard and so is he rpm package manager the os will run on almost anythind amd or intel.

  • @makmegs right on bro its like comparing a trycycle to to a car you just dont do it the ipad is a mid aka glorified call phone where as this device has far superior hardware and software I have a four year old fujitsu stylistic that kills the ipad like a hundred times over if they sold the ipad or 200 bucks I still wouldnt waste my money on that thing

  • @makmegs I dont even agree about the great piece of hardware for 500 bucks I would expect at least a dualcore atom and at least a gig of ram with the ability to run flash with a couple of usb ports and a desktop os not rebranded cell phone software

  • @cg0def you are mistaken this device uses the rpm package manager apps arent required it is like an .exe for windows this device could run a server and programs can be intalled from source code in about five commands you are right though linux does not mean cool but it does mean freedom and it will be superior to android because of the package manager alone and last time I checked Android beet out ios

  • @TheJafari1 the ipad is not in the same class as this device and should not b compared mac fan boys really have it in there heads that apple created the tablet wich they didnt and the ipad is a mid not a tablet this device has usb functionality and if the two devices were sinced the ipad would be the slave and the meego device would act as the host there is no comparison i would never pay 500 bucks for a mid let alone one that doesnt support flash

  • @timtheundertaker again apple did not develop the tablet nor is the ipad a tablet as it does not run a desktop os even the design is not original this device is a true tablet not a mid like the ipad as it runs a desktop capable os meego + rpm package manager try installing ms office on the ipad

  • @KIDTRACKz apple did not create the tablet nor is the ipad even technicaly a tablet it is a mid as it does not run a desktop os apple did not even originate the design google smartq v5 tablets have been around for years fujits stylistic and so have mids what apple did was popularize the device to the fanboys and non geeks of the world while simultaneously fucking them for that over priced piece of crap meego uses rp package manager and is suited for a desktop

  • @cg0def I agree, ipad is a great piece of HARDWARE. Better than a lot of things. What i don't like about it is the software. Thats my only bif with the ipad. Shitty software that restricts the user. You can have a bloody supercomputer with 100 TFLOPS of computing power but if its running shit software, then at the end of the day its about as useful as your alcoholic dad... Apple = Good hardware but THERE SOFTWARE IS DOGSHIT!!!

  • @makmegs look "bud", the iPad and any other device running iOS is in fact running Unix and just because something runs linux does NOT make it cool. MeeGo is nice but there are hardly any apps for it, it will go head to head with Android (and they are very much the same so it will be a tough fight) and at the end of the day iPad might have a restrictive software but has a very nice hardware platform and an amazing software ecosystem. Yes it is not the greatest thing since sliced bread but so what
