I love your tutorials!!! But this one is wrong
If you play close attention to what JL is doing you see:
1) On the 1.5 the first loop on the TH is on the basis of the finger (closer to the body) an then the 'second' string goes on the tip of the finger.
2) Open the stings on the NTH and pass the yoyo between them, at the same time drop the string (not the loop) of your TH.
3) Then you "Roll out and up... and roll the other way to 1.5"
