@J5MARLON, Albert King himself called Stevie Ray his "white godson"... MANY of the old-school blues guitarists have stated that people like SRV, Clapton & Page have taken the blues forward & their interpretations are just as valid & important. Being a "music snob" or "blues purist" only means to deprive one's self of a wealth of great music. ;)

I learned the SRV/Clapton version- with a pick-this is the first time I've watched Freddy himself play it-I didn't know he was a fingerpicker-he's amazing!

That was AMAZING! This is the first time I recall listening to Freddie King. I have read about him influencing Clapton and others but I never treated myself to listening to his music. i am glad I finally did.

Freddie didn't claim to have written it. There are interviews kicking around where he says it was just a thing that several people played in bars, of undetermined origin. He just had the opportunity to record before the others, as he stated. But, yes, years before SRV.
