Hymn: Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken [John Newton]
Tune: Will You Be There [Michael Jackson]
Arranged by David Rowe

Lyrics:

GLORIOUS THINGS OF THEE ARE SPOKEN

Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
He whose word cannot be broken
Formed thee for his own abode;

On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded,
Thou may'st smile at all thy foes.

See! the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters
And all fear of want remove.

Who can faint, when such a river
Ever flows, their thirst to assuage?
Grace which, like the Lord, the Giver,
Never fails from age to age.

Round each habitation hovering,
See the cloud and fire appear
For a glory and a covering,
Showing that the Lord is near.

Jesus, whom souls rely on,
Makes us kings and priests to God;
Blessed inhabitants of Zion,
Washed in our Redeemer's blood

Saviour, if of Zion's city,
I by grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in thy Name.

Fading is the worldling's pleasure,
All his boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasure
None but Zion's children know.

  • Hey, you ignorant savage...you have TOTALLY BASTARDIZED (BEYOND ALL RECOGNITION) the original tune of this English hymn. Properly performed, to the tune of Haydn's composition, it sounds EXACTLY like the German National Anthem, "Deutschland, Deutschland Ueber Alles." You have the lyrics more or less right, but you have totally changed the music. You are doing the same thing as Ronald McDonald would be doing if he sang The Star Spangled Banner to the tune of some nigger rap "tune." Dickhead.

    Awesome comment mate. It seems you missed the entire premise of this project - to put old hymn lyrics to different tunes - but never mind. Maybe you didn't read the title?

    I agree, the Haydn tune (which IS the German national anthem) is fantastic. I love it. But this project is an attempt to hear different depths in familiar lyrics - if you don't like it, that's fine; there are plenty of places to listen to 'Glorious Things...' sung to the Haydn tune.
