Those labels aren't good for CD or DVD players in the long run since it throws the spindle platter off center.

The bottom metal layer allows the laser to reflect the information, from the middle plastic layer (the top layer is a protective finish), back to the device. So the laser reads the metal reflection of what's printed on the plastic. So what are you talking about. Ha.

What r u talking bout the data is not held on the top surface if it was then u would place the disc in the drive the other way round and then the label would be facing the laser
