Do you think my set is defective? Yeah, I think so. Floating purple pixels should not be there. Anyone else get this problem on their plasma sets? I have more than 30 of them on a 42 inch display.
You got a plasma, right? Plasmas are quicker to scan, or change colors, than LCD's. But LCD's can have a perfect picture from any viewing angle up to 175 degrees. Hitachi has a customer support line and if your warranty hasn't been exceeded than you can get a brand new one. Just call customer support.
Purple pixels would mean that the green pixels in the affected spots are not illuminating.
Unfortunately, defective pixels are possible on new plasma displays. Depending on the number and location, this may or may not be deemed as a defect. But, some manufacturers may help you in this case, particularly if the set is within warranty and the problem is as bad as you depict.
I would recommend that you exchange the set at the place of purchase or call Hitachi for a possible warranty claim.
I Know for a fact that having that many dead pixles in the UK would allow for a FULL refund, I think it's if you have 3 dead pixles then its defective.
