  • Is this an open-back or a resonator banjo? Please reply!

  • It's an open-back (i lost the resonator it came with) el-cheapo Winchester. I got it second hand in about 1978. cheers Pete.

  • I think I have that exact same banjo!

  • Winchester.

  • With the first note, you convinced me to buy a banjo and learn to play the blues! I love you!

  • @bigcat2892 How can we look at the head when it isn't shown at any time during the video? Do you mean the peghead by chance? Looking at the inlays between the frets I believe you can see there ARE strings on this banjo. The resolution is not high enough to pick them up against the peghead. I've seen many banjos with grooves in the frets, but never one with lines worn into the inlays.

  • @gwugluud im in the exact same position as you i just got myself a dean as well

  • @pmwhitlock look at the head of the banjo, there is no strings, and those are old frets on there, if you ever seen a used guitar you can see the frets have grooves in them

  • @bigcat2892

Is this a joke? You can see them over the fret wire.

  • WOW! Amazing.

  • @gwugluud same with me, i know no chords at all, of any type, yet try to invent my own style, sorta grunge/heavy metal banjo :) what the heck, it's always people who ask 'why not' that change the world, not those that ask 'why'.

and what do you know, originally banjo was a black folks' instrument, so it's only fitting that blues be played on it

  • I bought a Dean banjo on impulse after picking it up and messing w/ it. I'd never seen one up close b4. I didn't realize what WEIRD instruments they are...I'm a punk/ experimental / alt rocker with no interest in country or bluegrass...Been making up my own bizarre stuff. I don't know any banjo chords. I'm excited to see this example of the instrument being used to play BLUES...The slim neck and the drumhead across the front fascinate me...!

  • do you know how good you are? I didn't even look at the description below the video, and i could tell what song you were playing the moment the video started. You got some serious talent, and the slide banjo sounds awesome. Keep it up. From yours truly, a slide mandolinist ;)

  • sounds good to me..
