  • i understand that you have to focus on the solutions to solve a problem but before you can solve any problem you have to be able to identify the root of the problem

  • you know. the point of the therapy is never about focusing on what is wrong about the past, but rather on facing it and dealing with situations which you are related to in the way that absorbs your energy and keeps you away from being able to see a solution though from taking the right next step. Sure you're right about focusing on the bright sides, but your eyes won't be open enough to see the situation clearly as long as you have a bad relationship with any situation of your past. deal with it

  • @wherelogicmakessense On a larger scale, when a nation faces an economic recession, pumping government money indiscriminately into the economy may be a sort of solution but it will not fix the long term problem unless it is focused on what the root cause of the recession was. In all the best way to find a specific solution that will last is to truly understand what it is that you are trying to fix.

  • @wherelogicmakessense My point is simply that you cant solve a problem if you do not recognize what the problem is. For example if I were an alcoholic, i would need to recognize that those habits were destroying my body and life before I begin to search for solution.

  • @lmassman14 The idea that solving a problem should start with the root of it, is a very traditional and manufactured approach, even if every therapy session starts with it.

People are complex, so they find millions of causes to why they are facing problems, some of which could be exaggerated or fabricated just because that's what they are focusing on. If you look for a problem, chances are you'll find one, even if it wasn't a problem to begin with. Focusing on solutions helps people move forward

  • @lmassman14 Agreed.

  • NLP

  • Thoughts become things.

  • This is a great video. Solution-focused brief therapy is my chosen theoretical perspective and this video highlights some of its basic tenets. Thanks for making this video :)
