this from PLATO by Charles Hummel ...no plagiarism intended.
Guardians is split into 2
auxiliaries: incharge of security
guardians: the ‘sages’, watch over the smooth functioning and harmony of the state. At the
head of the state is a ‘philosopher-king’ (such as Archytas of Tarentum)—an idea that is taken
up again in The statesman but is abandoned in the Laws, in which a ‘nocturnal council’
assumes the responsibilities of the highest authority.

the dumming down of America

@celticwomanfan01 Guardians=GUARD the city. they are the spirited, not the PHILOSOPHER_KINGS, who were the Philosophers.

@abaskcasckbackj You are WRONG! The Guardians WERE the leaders of the society as wished by Plato!!! WHY? Because the Guardians were the Philosophers and Intellectuals, the people who had the virtue of reason! The AUXILIARIES were the military/police. :)

most of those kids are too far gone to even start worrying about . Most of them will make fine little democrats .

That's right. The philosopher-kings were the politicians.
@abaskcasckbackj
No my friend. Just because Plato calls the Guardians "Guardians" does not mean they are "guards" in the modern sense we take them (i.e. protectors, military ppl, etc.)
Plato's "Republic" classifies the people in a society into the 1. Laborers 2. Auxiliaries and 3. Guardians.
Do your hw and actually re-read your Plato.

Well said Doc. Savage.
Perhaps if the academic world in our country wasn't ruthlessly dominated by the neo-marxist left, we would have a lot smarter teachers and children in our schools.
