@freacls I think you are refering to the maikos? Because they live in their lives are more strictly ruled. They are not allowed to carry cell phones, but most okiya have a computer and the girls are able to get their HS diplomas online if they wish. Other things are very strict such as because they have their hair in Nihongami (the Japanese trad. hairstyle) they must wear kimono always with the exception of their day off & are not allowed to cross the bridge into the rest of kyoto w that hair

Actually... In this very video you can see that the Geisha is accessing a laptop. The instructor mentioned that she is in one of the most strict geisha units... So my best assumption is that if she can access a computer of some sort all of them can.... But maybe there is a rule during training that they can't?

Once geisha are no longer apprentices (maiko), and are well renowned and well practiced, they become Geiko. Geiko are allowed more luxuries (like wearing wigs instead of having to sleep with a large hairstyle) and are allowed to move out into their own apartment, as this one's done, while still in contact and working for their okiya. So since she's most likely allowed such a privilege as being able to live on her own, she's probably allowed internet too.
