Desert Dreaming: Road trip with Lonely Planet travel writer Greg Benchwick to a seldom-visited slot canyon outside Moab, Utah, in the harsh and inhospitable Castle Valley. Along the way, you'll see just how beautiful the desert of the American West can be, learn about desert ecology, tromp through pristine Onion Creek, and see how Zeytin, the three-legged Turkish wonder dog manages to wiggle his way up boulders that would challenge even those furry friends blessed with four paws. Greg and his girlfriend, Alejandra, camp out for the night, beat it out into the desert up a rugged slot canyon, jump rivers, get swamped down in quick sand and revisit an area that has changed markedly in recent years. But as always, the lyrical myth and mystery of the desert abides.

  • @DallinJeepsUtah -- Ill take your word for it. I just know when I was a kid we went there and everything we saw was abandoned. We didn't find a soul. And we stuck around for a few hours and saw some sites and go carted down the hills.

  • @x104MadAzaHatter401x yeah, i'm with ya, i'm mexican too and i grew up there, oh, brings back beautiful memories of sweet Weezy Martinez! = )

  • @FavreianVengeance I've been going there for easily that long, by Utah standards not a ghost town even then. Apples and Oranges I reckon.

  • @DallinJeepsUtah Maybe not these days especially since it got more popular with four wheeling from what I understand. But 20 years ago when I was visiting it - It most certainly was a ghost town.

  • @qualqui Potash is on the other side of moab. this is off of highway 128 just before Dewey Utah.

  • @FavreianVengeance Moab is definitely not a ghost town

  • I live within an hour of there.... I rode my motorcycle through Castle Valley earlier today.

  • Are there REALLY Dino footprints, that show one was chasing a man? Did u see any?

    Thanks,

    dj

  • why 9 dilikes ?

  • My grandpa lived in Moab before it was a ghost town. There was maybe one or two hundred people. The town had a movie spot I believe though.
