Not quite. L4D is in a universe of its own. If you play through the game, you notice that Aperture Science was in competition with Black Mesa. This means Portal is in the Half-Life universe. GlaDoS is probably talking about the seven-hour war or the Black Mesa Resonance Cascade incident.

@Zevan12 aperture science was triing to create portals before black mesa and created glados to help them, but they lost the race, then glados locked everyone in the lab and killed most of them with neurotoxin, started an endless test cicle with the survivors and promised them to give cake at the end... but the succesful subjects were killed in a furnace. then chell is an special case....

@TheAlucardfan Portal still alive is the downloadable version that wasn't in the Orange Box. All that is changed is about 5 seconds of the ending to make a sequel possible.

@KorKonProductions It was announced, but not at any convention. In Portal, under Director Commentary, they state there will be a second Portal game as well as Valve stating there will be a second in the series in so many magazines. They just haven't announced it at a convention yet.
