Tom is going for a back loaded barbell squat, a very traditional strength move, and loading 36 kg of Kettlebells hanging from chains to add not only more resistance but a lot of instability. The idea of instability here is to cause your muscles to fire just as hard as they would with a very large amount of resistance, but with much less resistance and in a very controlled manner. A combined weight of roughly 300 lbs gets Tom very near failure in 3 reps, on a regular weight loaded squat Tom uses 425 for a usual set of 3 reps.
The instability here also gets a much higher degree of total core involvement.
WARNING! Koji squats should never be attempted without a competent spotter on top of your every move in this exercise, not one holding a camera 15 feet away.
