By some miracle I have been able to get Counter Strike: Source to run in Ubuntu without it crashing, in a window, with compiz effects on full blast. I can run it full screen as well, but I don't have the energy to tweak it further and do more stress testing. It is very playable, and fulfills my needs at this time. Sharing the video (made with Istanbul) to show that yes, it is possible.

By the way: it runs BETTER than it did on Vista.

  • why window mode? ur pc is to shit to load full screen?

  • @Micbuns1 no penis. Read the description. I didn't have the energy to tweak it further and do more stress testing. I didn't mention that I was multitasking while playing.

  • can u post a tutroial on how to do this please

  • @walkthroughguy88 i forgot how to do it already, but mess around with WINE, it's teh shiz!

  • @313c7r0idPu153 don't do that... buy it. it goes on sale for dirt cheap now & then on steam.

  • Meh, it is more fun getting games to work on Ubuntu. Besides, who cares if it is not a gaming OS. If developers would pay more attention to the linux community and whatnot, then there would be some decent games for it.

  • You could try disabling compositing (which will also disable compiz). Compositing has been known to lower framerate by about half.

  • As long as I have meh steam games im happy :D

  • @ramdawgy Actually, you can very well play CS:Source on Linux. It won't be as smooth as it should be, but it's playable.
