After doing research in Ontario as to how other rescues operate, we were shock to see no parrot rescue were disease testing incoming parrots. This brought up alarm bells not only for the parrots that would be living at a rescue, but if they were adopting parrots out. The excuse, they can look at a parrot and tell if it was sick or not. If that was the case we would not have to test for diseases.

Parrots don't show if they are sick or not. Testing must be done. We approached Dr. Shawn Trucker from Thames Road Veterinary Clinic located in Exeter, Ontario in 2006. We explained to him what we wanted to do. He now is our main vet for Freedom Flights. He sees all incoming parrots, and also looks after the ones that need on going care. Here he talks about disease testing. If you would like to contact him his office number is 519-235-0001
