Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Not as good as the book, but still worth watching.

  • Always superlatives on these productions....I shudder to think what the new movie will avail. Ka-boom computer effects and"that blowed up reeel good!"

    A sherry,please,Mrs. Hudson.

  • i thought it was 6 grand but he was actually was given £12,000. A stupendous amount of money in the late 19th/early 20th Century.

No wonder Holmes could pick and choose his cases!

  • @19996669991 One hopes Holmes bunged Watson a few quid from his 'Kings Ransom' (an unskilled labourer earned about 4 shillings a day at the time. One pound = 20 shillings)

  • Holmes the master. Jeremy Brett IS worth a kings ransom, bless him. R.I.P. Ameen.

  • @harveyallison it was about 88kg of pure gold (96kg of 22 carat coins)

  • Holmes got £12,000. Look at the check.

  • Everyone who worked on this production should feel very proud.

Hollyweird is not ever going to do better than this.

What a sadness is boarding school though. What difference is it really to a childrens home? I would never do that to one of mine.

The ruling elite, children from broken homes, continue to fail us all completely.

  • what a brilliant and compelling production.

I doubt it can be topped.

  • 1:25 -- Holmes did very well -- instead of the £ 6,000 that was offered initially, he got £12,000.

  • I agree that it's not as good as the book, these guys who attempt to improve on Conan Doyle usually fail; I really can't see that the original story needed it (and it would also have been a heck of a lot cheaper to produce, with no need to mess around in caverns with scores of extras!). Where it really loses is that CD saves the bit about the fake shoes for the final scene, which I think much more effective. But thanks for posting all the same!

  • @2me4my5 Ah but my dear sir (or ma'am, it's difficult to say), I am aware that I bear the image of God, and I certainly do my best to suitably display said image for the world to see. However, you may err when you state that I am called to be a knight, Ambassador, and a Priest. I am not called to glorious deeds or battles afar. My role on the stage of life is humble, but I have yet to be cast in the play.

  • @Lyrictheac Better than an English Gentleman, you bear the Image of God. You have been called to Knighthood in the Service of the King of kings. You are called to be an Ambassador here in the United States for the Sovereign of sovereigns. You have been selected since before the worlds began to be ordained to a Royal Priesthood. And I, m'lady, have been sent by His Majesty to inquire as to why you have not responded to His call: why art thou delayed?
