It is a Harmony Stratotone H 44 - made between 52 - 57. Ian also plays a Harmony Stratotone Jupiter H 49 made between 58 - 65. There are some reissues out there now but the guitars Ian plays are originals. The Harmony demont website is awesome, take a look. I have both and the H 44 has a huge neck!
Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to keep my eyes open for one. I don't know if it was standard issue or after market,but mine had what looked like a chair rail from a 1950s table. it was chrome with a rubber strip through the middle.

@dandamagetoo I'm pretty shure it's a Harmony Stratotone. Both Harmony and Eastwood makes a reissue now.

OMG!! that looks just like my first solidbody electric I got when I was about 5 in 1959. didnt have a name on it. anybody know what it is???
