KrisLibrary: Poor Kids Learning to Read at the Kristiyano-Islam Peace Library

A young student volunteer bides her time teaching poor Muslim and Christian children at the Kristiyano-Islam (KRIS) Peace Library in Manicahan, Zamboanga City, Philippines. Zamboanga City is infamous as a harbor of terrorists and leftists such that it has become a poisonous environment for poor children growing up. Rather than go to school, they are recruited as child soldiers. Rather than learn to read, they learn to kill. The A-Book-Saya Group (ABSG) / KRIS LIBRARY is striving to fight this poisonous environment by advocating education as the solution to terrorism and poverty in these parts of the Philippines. Their establishment, the KRIS Library, was constructed through the generosity of many kind souls. It caters to the needs of poor children living nearby who visit everyday to read, and to learn to read.
