KERZERS, SWITZERLAND (January 10, 2009) -- The Marcel Huisman Jazz Four (MHJ4) band performs "A Child is Born" during the launching of the art exhibit of painter Markus Pfaeffli's at a cozy art gallery in this Swiss town.
Pfaeffli presented 35 of his colorful 'musical paintings' in an exhibit dubbed "Farbwelten" (Colorful World) at the Galerie Kulturkeller Gerbestock in Kerzers.
The band, composed of tenor sax player Marcel Huisman, pianist Richard Zurbuchen, bass player Toni Aebischer,
and drummer Marcel Gerber, provided the live musical interpretations to some of Pfaeffli's masterpieces to tune in the guests to the musical mood of the exhibit.
The MHJ4 musicians have been playing in various groups, and the current band composition evolved from that network. The group's minimal arrangements enable them to perform musical pieces from the era of bebop, cool, and hard bop, with a common preference for ballads, with lots of creative freedom.
The members are guided by originals of the said styles
and by the "Great American Songbook."
