I'd like to know why Hal didn't re-enlist when the Korean War broke out as did Ted Williams?Could it be that people he preferred weren't at risk there?
it was a jewish sportswriter who broke the story that Koufax wasn't really jewish while he was still pitching in the mid-1960s. Sandy Koufax (born Sanford Braun) had Geman parents and then his mother remarried to a jew named Koufax when Sandy about 10 years old. Current shortstop David Eckstein also is German and not jewish. Koufax was jewish thru conversion only just like Rod Carew and Sammy Davis Jr.
Hank Greenburg was the first national league player not on the Dodgers to welcome Jackie Robinson into the major leagues. The first time he played against the Dodgers during Robinson's rookie season, Greenburg came right over to Robinson in front of everyone on both teams and in the ball park and warmly shook hands with Jackie and spent a good deal of time talking with Jackie and encouraging him. He was a great ballplayer and a real fine human being.
he was a beast!! look at him kick it in right at 0:02...as soon as he makes the turn at 2nd base...thanksfor posting, its the only live action reel of this great athlete..if anyone had to overcome alot in baseball it was him, and jackie robinson, or jo jackson, or willie mays...
