Just in time for Summer - in Australia! :) This was shot in the summer of 2011 but kept getting bumped from the schedule because of bigger name beers. This is a TIE FOR THE LOWEST RATING WE'VE EVER GIVEN. Find out why the guys were hating this beer and why Chef wouldn't even finish it. This may not be the best beer we've reviewed, but that doesn't mean this isn't a great episode. This is one hatefest you can love!

Hi. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority.

So, I was sitting at my computer and the doorbell rang. I opened the door and saw a UPS driver sprinting away. At my feet... a non-descript box. Inside... Free beer. Hooray! A six-pack of Newcastle Summer Ale.

We love free beer - send more six packs!

Newcastle Summer Ale is brewed by the Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh, Scotland and has been around since 2009. It is one of four seasonal offerings now being offered under the Newcastle name.

The brewery describes it as "refreshing and light" with a "subtle citrus hop aroma" and a "dry finish". It is 4.4% ABV and the package says to "Drink Cool". Serve it in an English pint or shaker.

Maybe the beer went bad....you guys should probably go out and buy it fresh and then rate it...I've never tasted it but would like to know an actual impression.

@BESTIACRUEL8 It might have been skunked, but I'm not convinced that it was. I didn't think it was that bad. Not sure why they guys were so negative about it. However, it's a seasonal so we can't buy it and re-review it until next summer.

@kyral210 good point, not every beer travels as well as every other, and some are much more sensitive to environmental factors. maybe newcastle's brews are delicate if they're not moved gently or stored carefully.

@MrDonamus The last Hoegarrden that I had wasn't impressive, but I'm not sure that the bottle was fresh, so I am going to have to revisit it at some point.

Hoegaarden would probably be one of my favorite summers just because it's so freakin easy to drink and tastes well too. Last Laugh by Choc is another good summer wheat ale.

@AgileHProductions bugger. Will tell you this though, I was in Newcastle the other week, and the bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale tasted VERY good there, better then when im down south. I wonder if its a beer that travels badly...
