Quick vid of a newly finished amp which was a brutalized Silver Face Bandmaster with many things wrong about it including the iron. After completely stripping it down to the metal and building new boards (G10), new output trans from ClassicTone Magnetics (JPM50) and 4-6V6 tubes for power. The Normal channel is now the "Thick" channel and consists of a paralleled preamp tube into a cathode follower driven tone stack with Marshall values (56k/500pf/.022/,022).

It also has a mid shift bypass across the treble cap ala Boogie in place of the bright switch. The "Vibrato" channel is straight Bandmaster circuit.

The idea came for the mods came about because it showed up at my place with Twin/Showman transformers and of course 4 output tube holes already there. I got to thinking, "Hhhhmmmm, wouldn't it be cool if it had 4 outputs like a Showman, but use a Marshall OT at 3200 ohms. that would match 2-pairs of 6V6's just right." So instead of a full on showman, it's like a mini-Showman.

I'm running it into a partial open back 2x12" cabinet loaded with a Weber Silver (50 watt), and a reconed older Celestion Vintage 30. Im plugging my Hamer Studio with High Order neck humbucker (A4 @7.8k wind) and Duncan Custom V in the bridge. Again, Im just using the built in mic on the camera - sorry for the hiss, it's not that noticeable in the basement.

  • @23ericiscool I personally prefer the Mallory's as a goto cap. They are smooth and just sound right in most of my builds. I try to use polyester caps over polyprop & flim caps (OD 715p, Solen, MIT, Auricap, etc). They sound better in guitar amps to me. Leave the high end polyprop's in hifi amps.

I like to be consistant , so if I'm using Mallory's, I'll use them for all the coupling caps.

If I had an older amp, I would only change them is they were leaky.

    Thanks for the props!
