Squall is an interesting Final Fantasy character. First he seems kinda dull but there is so much hidden in him that comes out during the game

I think it was great story telling by the creator, the classic tale of two people meeting, falling for eachother, but due to one going to war they couldn't be together, but each of their children finally met, and although unlikley, fell in love with eachother other through involvement in their own war against what caused the separation of their generation before them.
