Yes, agree, what fab singing, however, I really think that there are still fab voices around but the recording companies and large theatres only seem to concentrate on just a handful singers Who wants to hear Bocelli in complete reordings he really can't sing! Thanks to you tube we get to listen to some very good voices even todays voices.
I never heard of miss Ross...wish I knew her ....WOW.....WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VOICE...I TURN ON THIS VIDEO ALL DAY LONG.....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS RARE FILM.....
I have only seen one commercial recording by Ross. She sang on a Christmas album.
A wonderful voice. Ignored by the records companies. Instead we have stacks of recordings by Screaming Scotto and Freni singing roles too big for her and Price and Tebaldi and Sutherland recording operas twice.
Interesting article about Elinor Ross in the latest Opera News. Apparently most of the performances were with Fiorenza Cossotto. Vighi only did this one (which they chose for the broadcast). She probably had less rehearsal which accounts for the "getting lost". For so little rehearsal, they sing together extremely well otherwise.
My goodness!!! When they say they don't make them list that anymore, this is a classic example. Elinor Ross was a "2nd stringer" at the Met in the 70s and 80s, but this shows that she was a great dramatic soprano, almost a female Del Monaco (who is also in this production). The mezzo is also quite good with an wonderfully dark timbre.
Fabulous High C. from the Mezzo..

Actually the mezzosoprano Giovanna Vighi is a singing teacher in the Conservatorio of Parma (Italy). She had a very beautiful voice.
