For the first time in 5 years the waves were big enough at Waimea Bay to hold the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Invitational Big Wave Surfing Competition. The 25th anniversary of what is widely considered the world's most prestigious big wave surfing contest was held in 35 - 50 ft. surf before a crowd estimated up to 30,000. A live webcast got more than a million more viewers. Images include those of the "Dawn Patrol" crowd surfing just before the start of the event. Music by U2.
@RileyRichardz I've never been there, but it's in the 80's all year round and it snows up in the mountains in the winter. It's cold up in the mountains, but when u drive down from the mountains and you're off, it's in the 80's. I really want to go there.
