Saw this at the Kokusai Theatre in L.A. back in '85. I believe a lot of the miniature footage came from the 1976 Saburo Sakai biopic. Pretty good SFX for the '70s.

@57buickcentury yes, at least the Admiral Yamamoto Scene is reused from that Toshiro Mifune Movie, only reformatted. Toho did that with RENGO KANTAI too i think.

Unfortunately, this cool movie is not on DVD for English languages yet, so the VHS tape is still premiere high price in ebay I saw.

Title is 'Zero-sen Moyu' aka 'Zero Moyu', ('ZERO' in Rotten Tomatoes), in Japanese, '零戦燃ゆ' that means 'Burning Zero Fighters'. 1984 Toho

This is my favorite Japanese movie, I wanna recommend to all WWII pacific war or military movie fans.The director is Toshio Masuda who worked also at the famous TORA!TORA!TORA!

This story tells from the birth of Zero fighter, to the pathetic defeat by US newer fighters F6F, F4U, then the end of war of Japan that means the end of Zero fighter's life.

Also human drama is good, aircraft models are soso, music and songs are nice.
