The Trocaire box came to town today, Saturday 5th March, as the Trocaire's 'power of change' carnival hit upper Grafton Street with jugglers, fancy dress, multimedia, live music and a display of Trocaire box coins through the years.
Trocaire's Lenten campaign begins this week and over a million Trocaire boxes will sit in homes throughout the country. Over almost four decades Irish people have contributed some €250 million through the Trocaire box during Lent, changing families' lives in the developing world.
According to Justin Killcullen, Trocaire's Director: "This is really something to celebrate. The tradition of giving is one of which the Irish can be rightly proud. The Trocaire box -- an Irish icon - is filled with hope, dignity and pride. Every penny, shilling, pound and Euro put into our little box over the last 38 years has travelled the world giving the poor a voice and a new lease on life."
Trocaire's Lenten Campaign runs until Easter Sunday, 24th April. To order a Trocaire box call 1850 408 408, visit trocaire.org/lent or call into your local parish.
