i met j d sumner and he is the all time best bass singer
-
I met JD personally. He was a character no doubt about it. To ME, I've heard better bass singers. Range, defenitely, he holds, not as solid but he does have competition.

@Wellch Yes, he did, I'd link it, but it's one of the related videos on the side. ->

Did he or his group sing with Elvis Presley?
-
Not his lowest, but I love the way he does this song!

The first photo that comes up in this montage was made in Rutherfordton, NC just a few days before JD passed away in Myrtle Beach.
I can't remember if this is the one I shot, or the one a buddy of mine shot while I posed with JD.
Enjoyed seeing it here!

I don't think this is among his 20 "bassiest" songs...

I have quite a few albums from him and couldn't find much songs where he sang actual lead. But you're right about the amount of songs where he hits lower notes.

oops, JD hits a clean F1 and a Bb1 in the middle of the melody towards the end! A Bb1 as an ending note as well. from when was this?

It's from their mid 60s album "The New, Very New Sound of the Stamps", with (even) more focus on JD's bass-singing.
I will post some more of these songs soon (y)
