this is BS, in the federation you cannot arrest someone based on something he would do in the future. at that point soren was still innocent at least legally

@sondano Soren was running secret experiments with stolen Trilithium to create a weapon of mass destruction.

Picard could simply detain him until they boarded the observatory and found the weapon. Soren would not have been able to beam over there and activate the weapon and kidnap geordi like what happened in the movie

Kirk and Picard should have gone to ten forward - Kirk could knock Soran out, put him in the brig, and Kirk and Picard have a drink together.

@jtkirkfan2002 But Picard went only as far back to where he knew who Soran was. He knew kirk and kirk knew him because they met in the Nexus

@sondano True, but by the time they got him to a starbase for a trial his plans would have been ruined and the star system saved

What I want to know is when they came back to Veridian III, why wasn't Picard from ten minutes earlier already there? Then he wouldn't have needed Kirk at all, and if he failed again, he could just go into the Nexus and keep trying until he succeeded.

@SpockLover27 Not true. Even in the real ending, Picard had the memory of everything that happened before. How else would he have known who Kirk was when they returned to Veridian III or even that he had asked Kirk to come with him in the first place?

@stevenweir76 Kirk was drawn into the Nexus when the hull breached on the Enterprise. He had been there for the past 78 years, but since time doesn't pass in the Nexus like it does on the outside, when Picard found him, it was like he had just arrived too.
