  • I bet I could leave you while you were talking and you wouldn't notice until 20 minutes later when you felt the need to pee. It really doesn't matter if someone calls these books "comics" or "graphic novels". Ignore the wanna-bes and the bandwagoners and just pay attention to your own vision and what pleases you....or else, you're going to lose your mind worrying what everyone else thinks.

  • @Gmancrap Alternative to what? We have The Broons in Scotland. You've probably never read it. Beautiful artwork and pretty funny situations. But most people I know don't like adult comics. They know The Broons, pass away one page comics.

I've not slept in 32 hours, stuck in work. I feel rather strange. I'll read your reply again after I've slept. Cheers.

  • Not really. It's only as big of a deal as you decide to make it. Without a doubt I do prefer saying "Alternative Comics" myself, and I do use the term "Graphic Novel's" when I go to a comic book store but I don't make a big deal about explaining to people who do in fact say "Comics" every single proper way of saying "I read illustrations who spit out white clouds filled with text and subjects deeper than those found in super hero comics".

  • @Gmancrap I get wrapped up in that. It's always when trying to explain to someone not familiar with the genre. Comic plays it down and doesn't describe it accurately, it might be a gloomy autobiographical piece of work, and Graphic Novel sounds so 90's, Manbat! Brilliantly written with beautiful artwork.

Clowes, Seth, Matt Stone have created a new genre. Autobiographical Comics is the description. Crumb and Pekar were doing that in the Seventies.

Chester Brown's books will never be a movie.

  • Wilson!

  • There's nothing wrong with calling it a Graphic Novel or even a Comic. People get so wrapped up in that.

  • you should try to read Ice Heaven, my favourite david clowes book, nice selection by the way, got me wanting to spend some money on comics
