Annabel (Mia Wasikowska) is a beautiful, intelligent young woman obsessed by wildlife and the theories of Charles Darwin. Enoch (Henry Hopper) is a troubled young man whose best friend is a ghost.

He's also been gate-crashing funerals ever since losing his parents in a car accident. When their paths cross, they form a strong romantic bond as charming, vibrant Annabel slowly draws Enoch out of his shell and dramatically changes his worldview. Then she reveals that she's been receiving treatment for a terminal illness.

Director Gus Van Sant's follow-up to his Oscar-winning 'Milk' is a quirky yet moving story of young love tainted by tragedy. Influenced by '70s classics like 'Love Story' and 'Harold and Maude', it features a luminous performance from Mia Wasikowska as the spirited Annabel. Dennis Hopper's son Henry also shines as Enoch, his first leading role.
