  • Loved this place i spent 5 half yrs there of my RAF Regiment career and so sorry to see it fade into the history books although my thoughts and memories are very much still alive i lived in Doiran block on top floor and use to love having a single mans room during my stay there before i went off to do my pre para to serve with 2 Squadron but to everyone who served there i hope you will remember the good times had by all PER ARDUA RAF UXBRIDGE home to many Gary Horsfield ex QCS and 2Field Sqn

  • @Musicgutbucket

I'm sorry to say that he passed away in 1988. Thanks for answering.

  • @Badterminal I met him when I was in the air cadets in Hemel Hempstead when the Central band used to come & do concerts there. I spoke to him & asked about joining the Central band, he was extremely helpful, a very nice man, I would have liked to work with him. How is he?

  • Hi.

My Father was Wing Comm John Martindale, Director of music RAF up to 1982 when he retired. If any former band members have any anectote's about him, please could you get in touch. Via the name link above.

  • i was there xD

  • This has pure memories for me i have lost count how many rehearsals i have done under the watchful eye of Andy Manson and all the other SNCOS its also great to see the HQ building where Andy stood vigil watching his boys perform many a sequence including public duties during 1984 ,PER ARDUA to a place close to my heart from ex rock Gaz Horsfield QCS and 2 Field AIRBORNE

  • Gosh - what a memory - they closed the 8 Bells almost 30 years ago! (Ex WRAF).

  • What the tune called please.

  • @Richydoes i noticed your comment..i am guessing you are referring to the RAF germany band who lost many members in a bus crash ?.......yes the bandy,s of all the services do so much great work and are very often at risk themselves....regards..marty

  • First they closed the 8 Bells, then the Green Man.........now HQMS. Suppose they won't ever pay out Great Yarmouth now!!

I think often of dear friends lost in Germany in 1985. My best wishes to all those who wore bandharps - and to those new faces yet to do so. Richard Stone
