This clip shows an average daily start-up for UK Gold, also with the obligatory Cable opt out advert and it's bad opt in. And proof the announcements were pre recorded, as the announcement for Dallas was used for Crossroads, whoops!

  • I don't think it would be too hard for UK Gold (or G.O.L.D as it is now) to get these idents back, as most of the programmes they show have the same picture format. Indeed, interestingly, several times last year I noticed they kept the old UK Gold programme holding caption on when going into a break.

  • They seemed to have burned on captions to programmes with the 1997-2001 UK Gold logo on them, a case of bad editing more than anything. Little fact for you was the entire lot of UKTV's 1997 idents were filmed in 16:9, but were only ever shown in 4:3.

  • Wow, that was a very fast reply, steviegtvreturns!

  • you caught me online at the right time, lol

  • @tigerboytony Out of interest, were there ever any mistakes when the various platforms opted out of adverts?

For example was there ever an occasion where they forgot to go back to the channel after the ad break or an occasion where they showed the adverts by mistake anyway?

  • Virgin were still opting-out of adverts until last year or so. And still badly timed as well.

  • I think it was sometime before the 97 relaunch, although it got moved from 8am to 7am between the relaunch and this recording.

  • Do you mind me asking something else, whenabouts did Crossroads get reduced to one showing a day? Was this after the 1997 relaunch.

  • ON Digital used to opt out on adverts, in between programmes. They would break, and then all the adverts would be for ON Digital promotions. UK Gold, and Granada Plus were favourites for that.

  • Once again, thanks for your help.

I wish I'd been able to take more notice of the channel back then. Crossroads had definatley gone by November 2000 when we got UK Gold
